Welcome

Festival Director Brid McKibben

Welcome to the 7th Inverness Book festival. I’m happy to be able to return for a second year as Director, especially as we are hosting the festival in summer for the first time. Hopefully, this year’s event will see us enjoying lovely sunny days sitting outside in the lawn immersed in the books I’ve lined up for you this year. We have some great local and nationally recognised authors lined up for the 2010 Inverness Book Festival - their works cover history, cookery and the environment, plus heart-wrenching but highly entertaining biography and of course, there’s some fiction in there too. All the authors tell me how much they enjoy meeting their readers and how important it is to hear your comments both in the events and at signings. It is all part of the entertainment of writing and reading.

This is the first year we have managed to persuade the great Janice Galloway to visit us in the Highlands. Andrew Greig and Kevin MacNeil will talk of their recent work and adventures and we’re very glad to welcome Levi Roots to Inverness. We welcome back the tremendous Mairi Hedderwick (and of course Katie Morag). There is also a selection of other events for children of all ages.

The festival will draw to a close with a special event with Edwyn Collins’ biographer and wife, Grace Maxwell, who will talk about the harrowing time she endured following Edwyn’s illness. Grace’s event will also see a short performance from Edwyn himself – sure to be a superb evening.

We hope you can make it along to some of the events. We cannot promise sunshine but we do guarantee something everyone will enjoy!

Best wishes,
