Described as Harry Potter meets Nightmare on Elm Street, Invisible Fiends: Mr Mumbles by Barry Hutchison is a fantastically original, darkly funny and shiver-inducing new horror series about what happens when 12-year-old Kyle’s imaginary friend from childhood comes back to life looking for revenge on the boy who forgot him. Kyle doesn’t have time to worry about why, only one thing matters: staying alive.
Raggy Maggie is the second in the Invisible Fiends series published this August. Billy is the hardest kid in school and a horrible bully. Kyle could almost find it funny that Billy's childhood invisible friend was a little dolly named Raggy Maggie - almost, but not quite. Because now Raggy Maggie is back, and she wants Kyle to play a game... find where she's hidden Billy or who knows what will happen.
Barry Hutchison was born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland. Despite this, he has never once tossed a caber, wrestled a haggis, or gone a-roamin’ in the gloamin’.
An avid reader from a very early age, Barry spent most of his childhood with his nose buried in some book or another, and began writing his own novels when he was 10.
It wasn’t until 2007 that Barry decided to turn his attention to children’s books. He immediately found himself right at home, realising he could create all the bizarre, fantastical characters he could ever hope to meet. Barry wrote a number of books for Egmont, including several based on the Cartoon Network TV series, Ben 10.
Come along to hear Barry read from his books and talk about writing these and his comic books. His enthusiasm is infectious and his biggest fear is that someone will someday discover how much fun his job is and immediately put a stop to it.
This event is for children age 9 and over.
